NDC denies President Mahama’s ownership of viral luxurious Toyota Land Cruiser

Read Time: 2 minutes

The Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress

, Eric Adjei, has denied widespread claims linking the ownership of a luxurious Toyota Land Cruiser to President John Dramani Mahama

.

The luxurious Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 Xtreme Edition, a high-end vehicle equipped with bulletproof features, a 3.3L V6 Turbo Diesel Engine, and advanced terrain control systems, sparked public debates and attention on social media regarding its pricing.

The vehicle, which was seen at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) during a thanksgiving event for President John Dramani Mahama

, was rumored to have been purchased by him, with many questioning whether the vehicle was state-sponsored.

However, in response to these claims during an interview with Nhyira FM on Friday, January 17, 2025, Adjei described the claims as outright lies.

He clarified that the vehicle in question actually belongs to President Mahama’s brother, Ibrahim Mahama

, contrary to reports suggesting it was owned by the former president.

“The claims are not true. The car was part of the fleet of cars President Mahama arrived in at Cantonments to give his acceptance speech on the day Jean Mensa declared him president. Who was the president at the time? Did we go and beg for it from the presidency?

“Enough of the lies. They tried tarnishing Mahama’s image but today they have been shamed. Those cars belong to his brother, Ibrahim Mahama

,” he said.

Eric Adjei further disclosed that the vehicles used during Mahama’s campaign tour across the country were largely provided to him by his brother, Ibrahim Mahama

.

“Almost all the cars used by the president during his campaign days were from Gold House. Where from that propaganda with people quoting exorbitant prices and questioning his source of income?” he quizzed.

He described the rumors as propaganda, accusing the New Patriotic Party of orchestrating the plot to tarnish Mahama’s reputation due to the goodwill he receives from Ghanaians.

He firmly stated that President Mahama’s government has not purchased such a vehicle, questioning how his administration could have afforded it, given the country’s debt challenges and economic difficulties.

“… on record, President Mahama has not purchased any vehicle. We don’t even have a finance minister yet, so, where would he have gotten the money to purchase the vehicle? Students don’t have food to eat and IPP’s are demanding for debts to be settled, so, how can we buy a car? They are all lies started by the NPP on social media…,” he concluded.
