The human rights alliance seeks full access to employment, free and universal healthcare, water, quality education, land and food.
The Kenya Left Alliance, a coalition of organisations that advocate for an end to human injustices, has announced plans to field candidates who will contest for all elective positions in the 2027 polls.
The coalition seeks to bring an end to the dominance of Kenya’s ruling class, which they say has been the originator of issues the country is grappling with, such as unemployment, poverty and oppression.
“KLA is a bold, ambitious and urgent call to action for a national democratic revolution. Our ballot revolution heralds a new phase of political organizing by the Kenyan left,” said Nduko o’Matigere, National Chairperson and Party Leader of Ukweli Party.
Nduko was speaking during the first KLA National Delegates Congress, held between August 22nd and 23rd. The meeting brought together activists from KLA member organisations including Kongamano La Mapinduzi, Social Justice Centre and Ukweli Party.
“Through this first National Delegates Congress, KLA has set in motion a national fight for our country’s liberation from the anti-people politics of oppression,” said Wanjira Wanjiru, Co-founder, Mathare Social Justice Centre.
Following a union between the ruling Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Orange Democratic Party after the June 2024 Gen Z uprising, KLA opines that Kenya ceased having a strong opposition to fight for Kenyans.
“In response to the people’s rebellion, Kenya’s two most powerful and corrupt political cartels, Kenya Kwanza and ODM – united in their shared greed for power and wealth, only differing in the targets of their ethnicity-based politics,” said Sungu Oyoo, an activist.
KLA seeks to build a platform for Kenyans, across ethnicity and generation, to fight for a country in which all have access to employment, free and universal healthcare, water, quality education, land and food.
“This ballot revolution is the only way to comprehensively and permanently banish from our political and economic governance the caretakers of imperialism and neocolonialism that have been in power for the last six decades,” said Sefu Sanni, a social justice advocate.
Under its manifesto, KLA seeks to rebuild and expand the country’s industrial and agricultural capacity, to create employment for the youths, who struggle to make ends meet despite having the requisite qualifications.
“Kenya has everything that is needed to build a united nation of prosperous citizens. The defeat of the backward, extractive, ruling networks is a prerequisite for our country to realize its full potential as a modern democratic society,” said Mohammed Abdi Shukri, an activist.
KLA invites citizens to join the coalition as members, supporters, volunteers, organizers, mobilizers, and as candidates for election to MCA, MP, Senator, Governor and President through the Ukweli Party.
“We believe that the pathway to a new, just Kenya begins with a national democratic revolution at the ballot. We invite all Kenyans who share our aspirations to join us and support our candidates as we fight to build a free and equitable Kenya,” said Lewis Maghanga, an activist.
