Israeli plan over settlements to present on Biden

The Hebrew newspaper Israel Hayom revealed the content of a plan that the Israeli government intends to present to the administration of the new American President Joe Biden regarding settlement construction in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

According to the plan, a proposal will be submitted to the American administration to continue working in accordance with what has been in place in recent years in terms of full coordination with the American administration on settlement construction and taking its approval before taking major steps to build in the settlements.

However, it is not certain that the Biden administration will approve the plan, and it may put obstacles in its way by setting new conditions such as a ban on construction in areas prepared for the establishment of a future Palestinian state, as well as shrinking construction to include only settlement neighborhoods.

The Israeli government also fears that there is an American hard-line position on settlement construction in Jerusalem. It is unknown yet the position of the new administration on moving the US embassy to Jerusalem and reopening the consulate in East Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, the Israeli government seeks, as much as possible, to refrain from an open confrontation with the American administration over settlements.Source : Safa
