CALL FOR ABSTRACTS.

International Centenary Conference on Lenin, Leninism, Africa & the World, 21-24 January 2024.

The Lenin Centenary Commemoration Committee is organizing an International Centenary Conference on “Lenin, Leninism, Africa & the World”, in Abuja, Nigeria.

The conference is part of the centenary commemoration of the death of Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov, popularly known as Lenin (1870-1924).

Lenin died on January 21, 1924 and January 21, 2024 marks a hundred years of his death.
He  was perhaps the greatest advocate of Working Peoples’ Power in the 20th Century, an intellectual and a revolutionary theoretician, strategist, tactician, organiser, and leader of the first successful Marxist revolution in human history.

He was also the founder of the Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) and the Communist International (Comintern).

The birth, as well as death, of such a political giant, demands commemoration.

The conference provides a platform to discuss historical and contemporary developments of Marxism-Leninism and its relevance in the world.

Participants will be expected to discuss Marxism-Leninism as a tool of analysis and political praxis; as well as examine neo-liberalism, globalism, the changing world of multilateralism and the rise of bodies like the BRICS.

The conference also invites participants to interrogate whether or not it is/was Marxism-Leninism that failed in Russia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, China, and of course Africa (Guinea Bissau & Cape Verde, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Angola, Namibia and South Africa).

It equally invites participants to discuss the significance or otherwise of Marxism-Leninism as an emancipatory theory for analyzing, understanding and tackling the current problems of democracy, development, and underdevelopment of Africa and the world.

The Conference
sub-themes include:
Theoretical and practical relevance of Marxism-Leninism to the understanding of human and societal phenomena, including cultural, gender, and environmental development.

The role and significance of Marxism-Leninism in the anti-colonial and national liberation struggles in Africa and other parts of the world.

The roles, contributions and significance of the defunct Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, China, Cuba and Vietnam to the attainment of national independence and development of Africa.

The role of Marxism-Leninism in the understanding of contemporary problems, crises and challenges of imperialism and development of Africa and the world.

The relevance or otherwise of Marxism-Leninism to the contemporary development of society and emancipatory politics.

Leninism and the future of Left Politics in Nigeria and Africa.

Any other sub-themes and topics relevant to the theme.
