Nelimor Julius is the Oti Regional Director of National Health Insurance Scheme. In line of duty, he visited Nkwanta North District to see how the National Health Insurance Scheme is working and to also meet the newly appointed District director of National Health Insurance in Nkwanta North.
He stated that the NDC government is doing their best to ensure all Ghanaians are healthy.
Mr. Nelimor mentioned that previously the National Health Insurance Scheme was owning, making it difficult for people to use the scheme but now arrears are being paid and the insurance covers many diseases.
He again emphasize building trust and the office’s commitment to making healthcare affordable and accessible.
Kilinfingh Samuel, Newly appointed District director of National Health Insurance, Nkwanta North, stated, the previous government was not helpful to Ghanaians regarding healthcare delivery.
He mentioned, several service providers lost interest in the National Health Insurance Scheme due to delayed payments for rendered services.
Mr. Kilinfingh continues,
as they render service, they were not getting paid promptly, which led to a decline in the number of facilities participating in the scheme. Kilinfingh Samuel, however, expressed optimism about the current administration’s efforts to revamp the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), making healthcare more accessible to Ghanaians.
Nelimor Julius emphasized that building trust is key, and the Oti Regional office is working closely with stakeholders to ensure the scheme’s benefits reach more people. “We are committed to making healthcare affordable and ensuring Ghanaians have access to quality medical care without financial hardship,” he said.
The visit to Nkwanta North District also included meetings with local health officials and community leaders, aiming to sensitize the public about the NHIS’s coverage and encourage enrollment. Mr. Nelimor highlighted some of the scheme’s achievements, including expanded coverage for diseases like malaria, hypertension, and diabetes.
Kilinfingh Samuel added that outreaches are planned to educate communities about the scheme’s benefits and address any misconceptions. “Our goal is to increase enrollment and ensure no one is left behind in accessing healthcare,” he noted.
The Oti Regional Director and the Nkwanta North District director both urged Ghanaians to take advantage of the NHIS, stressing its role in promoting health and wellbeing across the region.
