GOVERNMENT RECLAIMS ASENAYO FOREST RESERVE FROM ILLEGAL MINERS

In ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities and protect Ghana’s forest reserves and water bodies, the government has achieved another significant milestone with the successful reclamation of the Asenayo Forest Reserve.

This feat has once again been achieved through coordinated operations led by the Forestry Commission and Security agencies, under the auspices of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. This marks the eighth out of nine high-priority “red-zoned” reserves restored from armed illegal miners, reinforcing the state’s zero-tolerance stance on galamsey.

Police nabbed notorious armed robber suspect in Togo

The Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has confirmed the arrest of notorious armed robbery suspect Abdul Majibu, also known as Adinda Akpo Abdou, in Togo. Majibu, a Togolese national, was wanted for a series of high-profile armed robberies in Accra’s upscale communities, including East Legon, Cantonments, Ridge, Tesano, Airport Residential Area, and Adjiringano, between 2022 and 2024.

Key Details of the Arrest:

  • Initial Arrest and Escape: Majibu was initially arrested in Ghana on September 4, 2024, but managed to escape custody and flee to Togo.
    . International Cooperation: The Ghana Police Service worked with Interpol and the Togolese Police to track down Majibu, leading to his arrest in Lome, Togo, on January 30, 2025.
  • Extradition: A five-member Ghanaian delegation, led by DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director General of the CID flew to Lome, Togo, on May 14, 2025, to receive Majibu and bring him back to Ghana.
  • Charges and Investigation: Majibu is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations into his alleged crimes.
    Addressing the media in Accra on 17th May, 2025, the Director-General of the CID, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, assured the public that the Ghana Police Service remains committed to ensuring justice is served and all criminals are brought to face the full rigors of the law.
    Adding that the arrest of Majibu Djandjo marks a significant milestone in regional crime-fighting collaboration and underscores the growing importance of cross-border policing in West Africa.
    The police are yet to confirm when the suspect will be formally charged in court.
