The anti-imperialist fervor igniting African youth is irreversible. Those who mistakenly label it as “anti-French sentiment” only obscure the reality: it is a legitimate struggle for our sovereignty. FRAPP continues to call for revolutionary mobilization to see through its campaigns “For Monetary Sovereignty, France Out of the CFA Franc” and “French Military Bases Out.” We will no longer settle for crumbs and symbolic gestures from Emmanuel Macron’s government. We will seize our full and complete sovereignty.
France’s domination through the CFA Franc is an imperialist disgrace that must end. In 2019, Macron attempted to disguise this domination with cosmetic changes, renaming the currency “Eco” to undermine the ECOWAS Eco project. This maneuver deceives no one. We demand the total abandonment of the CFA Franc and respect for our right to a sovereign currency.
The same deceit is used regarding military presence. While they claim to reduce troop numbers, they secretly inaugurate an air transit facility in Dakar to intensify military operations in the Sahel. We say no to this deception. French military bases must close, and their soldiers must leave our lands immediately.
FRAPP, along with other organizations at the national and sub-regional levels within the framework of the West African Peoples Organization (WAPO), is at the forefront of this struggle. They continually challenge France’s imperialist policies. African youth stand resolute, determined to end French neocolonialism.
France clings desperately to its domination, but popular pressure is becoming unbearable. Their strategy of feigning withdrawal while entrenching deeper into our lands will not succeed. We are vigilant, determined, and ready to intensify our struggle.
FRAPP calls on the new Senegalese authorities to support this trajectory for which they were elected. The people of Senegal voted for change and a break from the colonial past. We expect our leaders to take concrete steps to end French domination, both monetarily and militarily. It is time for Senegal to lead this revolution for a free and sovereign Africa.
