CAIRO, Wednesday, March 3, 2021 (WAFA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Malki said the Palestinians are more optimistic than ever to end the 14 years of internal division through elections.
In his speech before the Arab Foreign Ministers’ meeting in its 155th session, which was held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, Malki affirmed his rejection of any political interference or funding in the upcoming elections, directly or indirectly.
He expressed hope that all parties would motivate all Palestinian forces to work in favor of democratic and transparent elections that reflect the desire of the Palestinian voters.
He warned against Israel’s attempts to hinder the elections, especially in the city of Jerusalem, extending thanks to Egypt for sponsoring the recent efforts.
“The occupying power, Israel, continues to commit more daily crimes and violations against our defenseless people, without being concerned about its obligations stipulated in international law, UN resolutions or even the signed bilateral agreements,” the minister said, adding that Israel announced yesterday the building of more settlement units in response to the statements of the spokesman’s of the US State Department, who demanded Israel to stop settlement activities and unilateral measures that undermine the two-state solution.
Malki expressed his optimism about the convening of the international peace conference called for by President Mahmoud Abbas, especially after listening to the many comments from member states of the Security Council.
“We are still waiting for corrective steps by the Biden administration regarding the Palestinian issue, and the cancellation of the measures and illegal steps that have been taken by the Trump administration,” the ministers said.
