The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, today announced a significant government commitment to bolster nascent public universities across Ghana, pledging substantial seed funding through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). The announcement was made during his address as the Special Guest of Honour at the 5th Congregation of the C.K. Tedem University of Technology and Applied Sciences in the Upper East Region on Saturday.

Addressing a distinguished gathering of graduates, faculty, and stakeholders, Minister Iddrisu revealed that the government, through the approved 2025 GETFund formula, has earmarked a total of GH¢40,000,000 as seed money for these vital initiatives.

“This government is fully committed to nurturing our young public universities, ensuring they have the necessary resources to develop and provide quality education that meets the demands of our evolving economy,” stated Minister Iddrisu. “This seed funding through GETFund is a testament to that commitment.”
Under this new allocation, four key public universities are set to receive significant financial support this year. Each institution will be provided with GH¢10,000,000 to aid their developmental projects and operational needs.

The beneficiary universities include:
* C.K. Tedem University of Technology and Applied Sciences
* University of Energy and Natural Resources (UNER)
* University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)
* S.D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SD-UBIDS)

The Minister emphasized that this funding aims to accelerate the growth of these institutions, enabling them to expand infrastructure, enhance research capabilities, and improve learning environments for students. This move is expected to significantly contribute to Ghana’s human capital development and technological advancement.

The announcement was met with applause from the congregation, underscoring the positive impact this funding is anticipated to have on higher education in Ghana.
