This Sunday, July 27, new elections were held in Venezuela—the seventh in the past year—this time to elect the country’s 335 mayors and municipal councils.
So far, with some results still pending official confirmation, the Chavista movement secured victory in 285 of the 335 mayoral races, including 23 of the 24 state capitals (losing only in San Carlos, the capital of Cojedes state).
This triumph by the Great Patriotic Pole, a coalition of political forces—led by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela—that support the Bolivarian Revolution and President Nicolás Maduro Moros, marks the Chavismo’s biggest historic victory in municipal elections, far surpassing the 2021 results, when they won in 212 municipalities.
National voter turnout stood at around 44%, a figure consistent with previous elections of this kind.
While celebrating the results, President Nicolás Maduro dedicated this decisive victory to Commander Hugo Chávez, the historic leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, who would have turned 71 on July 28.
With these elections, the constitutional electoral cycle is now complete, following President Maduro’s reelection on July 28, 2024, and the elections for the National Assembly, governors, and legislative councils on May 25, 2025.
