The 2024 Black Girls in Leadership Development (B-GILD) Community Excellence Awards Program, organized by Sisters Keepers, is set to empower and celebrate young Black girls who are making a difference in their communities. Out of over 1,300 applicants, 33 exceptional participants from various countries have been chosen, including thirteen girls from the Shama District in Ghana.
These young leaders are currently undergoing a month-long mentorship and training program, where they are paired with experienced mentors to help them develop and execute community service projects. Workshops covering project design, execution, and evaluation are also being conducted to equip the girls with the necessary skills.
The program will conclude with an awards ceremony in August, where participants will be recognized for their hard work and dedication. Sisters Keepers will present Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards in two age categories, highlighting the outstanding efforts of these young leaders.
The B-GILD Community Excellence Awards Program aims to empower young Black girls to become influential leaders and change-makers through scholarships, mentorship, and training. President and Global Facilitator of Sisters Keepers, Violet Pearson, expressed the organization’s pride in the selected participants and their potential to make a positive impact through their community service projects.
Sisters Keepers is dedicated to empowering young Black girls through education, mentorship, and community engagement, with the goal of celebrating and empowering every Black girl to reach her fullest potential. The organization provides platforms like the B-GILD Community Excellence Awards to ensure that these young girls have the support and resources needed to succeed.
