In a dramatic turn of events, the technical team of Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, narrowly escaped a serious accident on the Tarkwa-Takoradi road on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred as they were returning from the Champion of Champions clash between Nsoatreman and Samartex at the TnA Park.
The team, consisting of Head Coach Otto Addo, Assistant Coach John Paintsil, and Goalkeepers Trainer Fatawu Dauda, was travelling in a Land Cruiser with the registration number GR 6521-21.
The trip took a dangerous turn when the back wheels of their vehicle unexpectedly detached, putting everyone on board in immediate danger.
Eyewitnesses recount a heartbreaking moment when a pickup truck swerved into the Land Cruiser’s lane, threatening a head-on collision.
The situation seemed dire, but the driver’s quick reflexes and skilled handling managed to avert a disaster, steering the vehicle away from the oncoming truck just in time.
Miraculously, no one inside the Land Cruiser, including the three coaches and the driver, suffered any serious injuries. However, out of an abundance of caution, they were all taken to a hospital in Takoradi for medical evaluation before continuing their journey to Accra.
This close call comes just days before the Black Stars are set to begin their training camp in Accra on Monday as they prepare for a crucial 2025 AFCON qualifier against Angola in Kumasi.
The football community has expressed immense relief at the news that the coaches are safe and unharmed, allowing them to focus on the important match ahead.
While the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, the priority remains on ensuring the health and well-being of the coaching staff.
As they recover from this ordeal, the team’s thoughts are firmly on the upcoming fixture, with renewed determination and gratitude for the safety of their cherished mentors.
