Australia Withdraws its Decision to Recognize West Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel

The Australian government has reversed the previous administration’s decision to recognise West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, stating that the city’s status should be settled via peace discussions between Israel and the Palestinian people.

According to foreign media, Foreign Minister Penny Wong stated that Australia will “always be a steadfast friend of Israel” and was dedicated to a two-state solution in which Israel and a future Palestine would share internationally recognised boundaries. Live in harmony with one another.

The government “recommits to international efforts to responsibly advance Australia’s progress toward a reasonable and sustainable two-state solution,” he said in a statement.
