ANTI-NKRUMAH MOVES IN THE GEAR BY ABENA OSEGU BOATENG

Nana Akufo-Addo and his political friends do not appear to have learnt their lessons yet and are continuing with their crazy anti-Nkrumah agenda.

The Busia regime got Parliament to sit under a certificate of urgency to pass a law that criminalized the printing, holding and distribution of Nkrumah’s photographs.

Clearly, this did not work as photographs of Nkrumah adorn all places where those who want to liberate Africa from the clutches of neo-colonialism and imperialism, go, live and work.

After the 1966 coup, the forebears of Nana Akufo-Addo collected all the books, pamphlets and writings of Nkrumah and those written about him and burnt them in bonfires across the country.

That also did not work and today, all those looking for solutions to the problems of Africa are desperately searching for the 13 books authored by Nkrumah.

Nkrumah’s books have become more than hotcakes and are being read by the new generation and older people with a strong sense of nostalgia.

When Akufo-Addo came to power, he removed the celebration of Founder’s Day from September 21, the birthday of Nkrumah to August 4, the date of the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention.

This too has not worked because people from all over the world continue to celebrate September 21 as Founder’s Day and August 4 is completely irrelevant.

August 4 is only celebrated as Founder’s Day by the former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye and a few of his friends and NPP ideological bigots.

The decision of the Akufo-Addo government to abolish July 1, the day on which Ghana gained her republican status as a holiday, has been most unpopular.

The decision to stop the celebration of May 25 as African Liberation Day is even more unpopular.

Now, Nana Akufo-Addo and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana have moved into fourth gear. They have withdrawn the two cedi note from circulation giving all kinds of reasons.

The truth is that the two cedi note has Nkrumah’s effigy on it and it cannot be allowed to circulate freely.

Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of Bank of Ghana announced this move after a meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the bank.

He said the notes will be replaced with coins and that the exercise started a long time ago.

Interestingly, the announcement was made only after a number of Nkrumaists had raised the alarm that the two cedi notes were difficult to find.

Akufo-Addo and his political henchmen and women can do their worst but Nkrumah will continue to stand very tall over the heads of all the midgets in Ghanaian politics.

Nkrumah truly never dies.
