You don’t have to fight to be a man, but “sometimes you gotta fight when you’re a man” is the theme in the song, “cowards of the county”, by the late country legend, Kenny Rogers. Simply, though one must try to avoid disputes, sometimes lasting peace is secured through conflicts.
Institutional inter-engagements of the organs of Government, while jealously guarding turfs within laws, rules and regulations in tune with separation of powers is essential for a proper, functioning democracy.
One way to expand the frontiers of democratic evolution is when institutions of equal constitutional powers assert and stand their grounds and create an atmosphere of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) that holds everyone in check.
An over-expansive and over-reaching judicial activism that threatens to weaken the legislature can only be met with an equally responsive legislative activism.
There’s no better time for Parliament to stand its ground and earn its prestige and right to be respected than now.
