Akyem Oda Senior High School has marked its 64th anniversary with a celebration speech and prize-giving day.

The event’s theme was “Opportunities and Risks of ICT: The Role of Education Stakeholders in Creating and Shaping Positive Digital Experiences for Students.”

Established on September 30, 1960, the school’s history dates back to when Rev. J.W. De-graft served as the Headmaster, supported by only two staff members: Mr. A.E. Aseidu and Mrs. Adowa Odum.

The school is a co-educational boarding institution, it was founded under the Ghana Education Trust, chaired by Nana Ayirebi Acquah of Wineba.

Initially located in the town, the school relocated to its present site in 1957, courtesy of Nana Frimpong Manso, the Omanhene of Akyem Kotoku, who donated a parcel of land.

The pioneering batch of students comprised 87 boys and 8 girls, including some from nuclear families within the Kotoku state.

The Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority, Dr. Albert Antwi Boasiako, speaking to the media after the anniversary advised the youth to be cautious when using the internet.

Dr. Antwi Boasiako said, the internet has become an integral part of daily life, and while it offers numerous benefits, it also poses risks.

He warned students against accessing inappropriate content, such as pornographic materials and fraudulent activities, and advised them to be mindful of what they post online.

The Headmaster of Oda Senior High School Mr. Evans Boafo emphasized the need for parents to take responsibility for their children’s actions, despite the free education initiative.

The President of the ODASCO Old Students Association Nana Baffour Anane Asare encouraged students to emulate the lifestyles of successful past students and urged them to be respectful and submissive.

He also called on past students to contribute to the development of the school, rather than relying solely on government support.

Additionally, the Kotoku Manhene, His Royal Majesty Oseadieyo Dr. Frimpong Manso IV, emphasized the importance of teaching students integrity, accountability, and responsibility.

He stressed that these values are essential for personal and national development, and encouraged teachers to instill them in their students.

He also advised teaching students about the local culture.
