Aggrieved CLOGSAG Members Disassociate Themselves from Nationwide Strike

Read Time: 2 minutes

A group of aggrieved members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has disassociated themselves from the nationwide strike called by the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Isaac Bampoe Addo. The strike, which is scheduled to commence on Thursday, February 20, 2025, is in response to the appointment of Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway as the Head of the Births and Deaths Registry, whom the Executive Secretary considers a politically exposed person.

However, the aggrieved members argue that the strike is unjustified and irrelevant to their conditions of service. They claim that the CLOGSAG executives are focusing on matters that do not serve the interests of members, instead of addressing critical issues such as the implementation of the new salary structure.

“We expect our Executive Body to take the necessary steps to address our concerns, which include negotiating a better minimum wage, ensuring better working conditions, and implementing the Enhanced Salary Structure without further delay,” the group stated.

The aggrieved members also expressed their dissatisfaction with the unlawful deductions of the Pempasie Tier-3 from their salaries, which began in February 2023. They urged the CLOGSAG leadership to act in the best interest of workers by addressing these pressing issues.

Meanwhile, the CLOGSAG Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, has stated that the appointment of Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway as the Head of the Births and Deaths Registry is a clear case of political interference in the Civil Service. However, the aggrieved members argue that the President has the authority to make such appointments, as stated in Section 2 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act 2020, Act 1027.

The group has urged its members to report to work as usual, despite the call for a nationwide strike.
